SMALL CYCLADES & INNER VISION
“An artist residency program in the Small Cyclades, designed to offer space and time for artistic research, creation and reflection within the pristine natural landscape of the Aegean.”
“Isolation and Inspiration: The Small Cyclades are the ideal place for artists who wish to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and connect with nature.”
“These islands have a rich cultural treasure, from ancient ruins and traditional churches, to picturesque villages with narrow streets and white houses. The local architecture, culture and traditions are very strong and offer an authentic taste of Cycladic life.”
The Program of Photography & Art Workshop
Mentor is the visual artist Panayiotis Lamprou
“His photographic approach stems from straight
photography and his practice is tightly knit with the
pursuit of showing the underlying sensitivities of
subject matters whose presence is often obscured by
preconceptions. Being fueled by an ‘active inertia’, he
confronts complex issues, such authority and the state,
mental illness, nudity and social norms with the
intention of inviting a mode of broader understanding.
Αttracted by Paradox confronting pragmatism and using
suggestiveness as one of his main tools to delineate it,
his thematic scope covers a wide spectrum focusing on
natural human presence and intimate urbanism.”
Alexandra Athanasiadou, curator on photography
& researcher in image theory.
Participants are those interested in art & photography,
regardless of previous knowledge.
The theme research is based on photography as an image
that reflects our inner vision.
The Art & Photography Workshop lasts 14 days.
The main section of the first week will be the visual
narratives, the power of logos and the creation of an
identity. In the second week, we will also dive into the
matter of things, how to realise an exhibition and a
photographic b
The seminar focuses on narrative photography, combining
documentary photography and modern methods of approaching
the construction of the image. Participants will learn to
feel their eyes looking at them.
Through intuition, observation and logical description of
the data, a critical consideration of the viewing of the
photographic field and an understanding of the multi-
level function of inner vision are attempted.
Emphasis is placed on research, sensation and work
structure as essential tools for the creation of a
photographic narrative.
With the support and guidance of the instructor, as well
as the active participation of the entire group, a
systematic dialogue will be developed that suggests the
steps for the development, editing and creation of a
narrative sequence.
In the investigation of Discourse - Logos - as an
integral part of artistic creation, the texts from the
narratives and thoughts that emerge during the
photographic exercise are examined, culminating in the
writing of an artist statement that contributes to the
formation of a unified "photographic discourse".
The main content will have daily peripatetics. We will
visit each place to share our presence, perception and
research skills. A daily part of the content includes
also anapana meditation, Wim Hof breathing sessions and
other eye exercise techniques to cultivate inner
presence.
The goal is to construct a visual narrative that is
distinguished by its coherence and clear underlying
identity, highlighting the narrative intentions of the
creators.
The place of action is the Small Cyclades in the Aegean
Sea, including the Schinoussa, Iraklia, Kato Koufonisi,
Keros and South Naxos islands.
The place of the classroom and rest is at Schinoussa.
Every new place is a search into the unknown. The small
Cyclades is the heart of the Aegean Sea, the core of a
civilisation from 3000 BC.
