Victoria Saretzky - A Movement Artist Melding Wellness and Spirituality

We are excited to continue our blog series by shining a spotlight on Victoria Saretzky, a remarkable artist whose journey blends movement, wellness, and spirituality. Victoria’s captivating "Plumeria" video showcases her deep connection with nature and the transformative power of art.

From New York to Nature: Victoria’s Journey

Victoria is a New Yorker at heart, having spent 10 years as a professional dancer in the city. Now, she resides in Warwick, NY, nestled between farmland and forest. Her life’s journey has been guided by a profound curiosity about wellness, spiritual growth, and natural living.

With a B.A. in French from Columbia University, Victoria frequently visits French-speaking countries, immersing herself in the culture she loves. Her holistic approach to life is reflected in her diverse expertise as an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, Human Design Reader, Reiki Healer, Vinyasa & Prenatal/Postnatal Kundalini Yoga Teacher, and Meditation Guide.

Artistic Statement: Movement as Meditation

Victoria views herself as a Movement Artist, using her body as a medium for creative expression. She describes her process as preparing the body like clay and treating the surrounding space as a canvas. This practice not only enriches her art but also deepens her connection to the earth, fostering a sense of stewardship and interconnectedness.

Her mentor, Kay Nishikawa, instilled in her the importance of treating movement as a practice that enhances her humanity. Through her performances, Victoria aims to evoke curiosity, peace, and reverence in her audience, highlighting the interconnectedness of all things.

The Plumeria Video: Movement as Art

During her time at Eutopia Art Residencies, Victoria embarked on the "Plumeria" video project, a piece that encapsulates her unique artistic approach. The project was inspired by the poetry of Rachel Clift, whom Victoria met during another residency in France. The collaboration resulted in a stunning work of Ekphrastic Movement Art, where Victoria’s dance interacted with the art of poetry, creating a profound dialogue between the two forms.

Victoria’s method involves extemporaneous movement, often site-specific and deeply connected to nature. She describes nature as the most inspirational work of art, providing the perfect canvas for her creations. Working at Kavala’s beach, she drew inspiration from the sea breeze, sand, water, and the warmth of the sun. These natural elements infused her movements with a sense of freedom and authenticity, transforming her performance into a meditative experience.
