Overview
The “Sea & Urbanism” is an Artist In Residency program located in Kavala, Greece that provides a unique and inspiring environment for creative minds worldwide, offering a harmonious blend of living and working spaces that promote collaboration, diversity, and artistic exploration.
The program extends a warm welcome to artists, architects, writers, art historians, publishers, musicians, and creative professionals worldwide.
The program runs for three weeks, available from March to November, and includes accommodation, shared or private studio spaces, curated excursions, opportunities for local engagement.
The program eagerly embraces diverse ideas and opinions, offering a space for temporary participation in programs that foster a global exchange of creativity. Furthermore, at the end of the program, a group exhibition, celebration, and event are organized, providing a platform for showcasing projects created during the residency.
As members of the Eutopia Art Residency group, artists receive features in the digital archive, support in exploring the local society, culture, gastronomy, and engagement with local artists in various disciplines.
Participants can choose between two distinct housing options, each with its own atmosphere and facilities.
Fees range from €1880 to €2180, depending on room type and level of privacy.
Location
Eutopia Art Residency is located in the beautiful city of Kavala, Greece.
In the historic city that embraces the blue of the Mediterranean Sea, amphitheatrically built, mountain and sea, in an urban environment with rich cultural activity.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Philippus archaeological site, museums, music events, festival, culinary delights, wineries, clay therapy and hydrotherapy, with routes to the picturesque old town with the medieval Fortress, the vast coastlines with sandy beaches and the beautiful nature on Mount Pangaio and the river Nestos.









The Program includes
Excursions*: There are several trips you can have while you participate in the program. Some of them are Thassos (a nearby island only 40 minutes by boat), hisorical ancient Theater Phillipus, several museums and nearby towns. You will also have the opportunity to make trips into local artists studios atound the region and even take workshops with some of them.
Open Exhibition: Concluding the program, you will organize a collective exhibition, event, and celebration with music, inviting citizens, fellow artists, publishers, and collectors. Artworks created during the residency period will be showcased. One representative piece from each artist will be contributed to the Eutopia Art Residency Collection.
Eutopia Art Residency Team Member Role: As a member of the Eutopia Art Residency team, your responsibilities include presenting the artist and their work, contributing to the digital archive of Eutopia Art Residency as a collaborator. Additionally, you will assist and guide artists in exploring the local community, culture, and gastronomy, ensuring a holistic and enriching residency experience.

Danai is the personal assistant in the Kavala program, she is the person who will solve all your questions and problems, together you will plan the creative period that you will live in the beautiful blue city, Kavala.
Housing and Workspace
As part of the residency program, artists can choose between two distinct housing options
each with its own character, atmosphere, and set of amenities.
Whether you prefer a more communal setting or a quieter, self-contained space, there’s a place to suit your needs.

The "Byron" house is a renovated two-story detached house from 1960, with a perimeter courtyard, very close to the city center, just 350m. from the sea.
It consists of 3 private apartments, a private room and a shared workshop on the ground floor.
Each private apartment is independent, with a double bed 160x200, bathroom, kitchenette, office, balcony and sofa bed.

All spaces are air-conditioned. There is a washing machine available. Free Wi-Fi
The residences prioritize conditions that favor creativity, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere. Weekly cleaning, linen and towel change are provided, contributing to a comfortable living space.
Workspace
The shared workspace is hosted on the ground floor of the building and is available 24/7.
At 40 square meters with a large work table,
chairs, an easel, various small tools, leftover paints left by previous artists encourage collaboration and communication between residents, facilitating the exchange of thoughts, ideas and concerns.
At the same time, the building offers a courtyard of approximately 120 square meters, giving artists the opportunity to take their work outdoors and enjoy common activities.

Our new house is a two-story mansion from 1905, in the center of the city, just 350m from the sea.
It consists of 4 private rooms on the 1st floor, with a shared bathroom and on the ground floor a living room, a shared workshop and a fully equipped kitchen with a balcony.
Each private room is independent. There is a washing machine available. Free Wi-Fi

Workspace
The workspace is hosted on the ground floor of the building, and is available 24/7.
Two separate 40 square meter shared workspaces with a large work table, chairs, easels, and small tools encourage collaboration and communication between residents, facilitating the exchange of thoughts, ideas, and concerns on various Art and Humanities topics.
At the same time, the building offers a courtyard of approximately 220 square meters, giving artists the opportunity to take their work outdoors and enjoy common activities.

The closest airport is Alexander the Great, Kavala Airport. From there it is a 35 minutes drive.
For international flights, it is mostly convenient to fly to Macedonia Airport in Thessaloniki. From there it is a 1 hour and 50 minutes drive or you can take a bus from the Central Bus Station to Kavala.

Is there funding?
At this time, Eutopia Art Residency cannot provide scholarships. We can send you an invitation letter to participate in the program and you can use it for funding from organizations in your country.
Are there any requirements for Artists?
Since Eutopia Art Residency focuses on research, knowledge sharing and experience with other artists and the local area, there are no required results.
What is included in the participation cost in the residence?
What is included in the cost of participating in the residency?
Accommodation (with water, electricity, gas, kitchen utensils, towels and bed linen, free street parking, weekly cleaning, 24/7 studio access, access to our equipment, assistance with writing).
Activities are planned throughout the month, such as open studio events, workshops, nature trips, public talks or trips.

Publication of your profile in our online archive; free Wi-Fi both in the house and in the studio.
What is NOT included in the participation cost in the residence?
Transportation, travel insurance, medical insurance, meals, production costs, consumable materials that will be used for the construction of the project, and any additional services.
Can I have a visitor during my stay?
At "Βyron" house, yes you can bring your partner/friend, for a symbolic extra cost of 400 euros.
At "Skra" house, no you cannot receive a visitor, partner or friend.
Is there a meal plan?
There is no meal plan available, Our studios dispose of a fully equipped kitchen which you can use if you want to cook independently. There are large supermarkets and street markets in the neighborhood where you can get fresh local products. There is also a restaurant by the sea only 300 meters away from the house (where you can make a reservation at very affordable rates) . There are also pizzerias and breakfast and coffee delivery only 50 meters away.
Do you provide editorial assistance?
Once accepted for residency, our editor will chat with each of the artists to better understand their interests and help plan their travel and accommodation. In addition, we will create a housing plan consisting of group activities, individual feedback sessions, workshops and trips. Please also discuss your studio space needs in detail, accommodation, equipment etc.
Throughout your stay, we will always be available to answer your questions, help you with your needs and plan your activities. If you need support finding a specific type of equipment or hardware, you can contact locals to join your project or suggest interesting websites related to your research.
How should I get to the residence building from the airport?
The closest airport is Alexander the Great, Kavala Airport. From there it is a 35 minutes drive. If you land in Thessaloniki, there are buses that will take you to the city center where you can take the KTEL bus to Kavala and will arrive in 1.5 hours. For any further information our team will be in personalised communication with you in order to organise together your trip.
Are group activities mandatory?
None of the activities are mandatory. You can decide how much time you would like to spend on activities. However, we encourage participants to participate in group activities as an opportunity to engage with each other, developing new contacts and experiences.
Cancellation Policy
In case of cancellation of the program due to the responsibility of Eutopia Art Residency, the advance payments are refunded.
In case of cancellation due to the responsibility of the artist, the advance payments are not refunded.
The artist can come, if there is a vacancy on other dates until the end of the current year
If the cancellation is made in time and the position is filled from the waiting list, by another artist, ONLY then he has the right to come the following year.
